Robbin’s Amazing Art: A Look at Chainsaw Carving

The word ‘Art’ usually elicits images of the Mona Lisa, portraits by Van Gogh, sculptures by Picasso, and maybe even glass work by the likes of Dale Chihuly. Some might swoon over lithographs, others get excited by hand-crafted quilts. All beautiful. Art truly is in the eyes of the beholder. Even CLC Tree Services appreciates art as well.

Merriam Webster defines art as,

art* – noun ˈärt

: something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings
: works created by artists : paintings, sculptures, etc., that are created to be beautiful or to express important ideas or feelings

So, lets reflect on that; created with imagination and skill? Well, I know of an artist that definitely has a lot of imagination and his skills can be seen in many sculptures found around London, Ontario. How many of you are familiar with chainsaw art? Because that is exactly the kind of art that Robbin Wenzoski creates and CLC loves best.

You may be wondering why Wenzoski’s name sounds so familiar. CLC Tree Services is no stranger to Robbin’s work. In fact, CLC has provided him with many of the trees/logs which have been turned into his amazing art pieces. He has carved several of the sculptures along Hamilton Rd, as well as the pair of figure skaters that were commissioned for the 2013 World Figure Skating Competition that was held here. They are all a part of London’s Tree Trunk Tour, which now boasts 25 sculptures around London.

Wenzoski doesn’t limit himself to chainsaw carving for the city though. He took up the art of chainsaw carving ten years ago and has been carving full-time for the last eight. He started with fine sculpture, but quickly expanded from there. A self-taught artist, he has competed all over the world and now hosts the annual Canadian Carv-a-Palooza out in Highgate. This past April was the 6th annual event and it drew sculptors and carvers from the US, Canada, Czech Republic, the UK, Slovakia, Ecuador, Poland, Germany, Austria, the Philippines, and even Japan!

Add to that all the commissioned pieces that he has carved for different individuals and businesses, and Robbin is a very busy artist! His passion for chainsaw carving has even led him to teach at the Haliburton School of the Arts every summer. Now that is a dedicated artist to his craft. CLC Tree Services is proud to be even a small part of Robbin’s amazing art. We’ve always got wood for you Robbin! Please visit his website to see more of his art and read more about this amazing local artist.
